DPML

What is DPML and what is its purpose?

DPML stands for the Domains Protected Marks List. Brand owners can add their trademark-related terms into the DPML and have them blocked from registration at the second level in all (currently 240+) Donuts TLDs

DPML protects trademarks holders against cybersquatting. A domain blocked by DPML is not functional, meaning it may not be used for a website URL, email address or other types of domain-related functionality.

Eligibility

The requested term/trademark must be registered with the Trademark Clearinghouse (TMCH)

Brand owners must submit an exact match of their mark(s) to DPML, or a term that contains their exact match mark(s).

Two distinct products are offered within the DPML brand protection service: DPML and DPML Plus

DPML DPML Plus

● Minimum 1 year subscription term, with a single string defensively blocked from registration across all Donuts TLDs

● Premium domain names are not covered under this legacy DPML product

● Third party override is available

● Homograph Protection

Process

We have created specific virtual top-level domains for DPML and DPML Plus in the GatewayNG, ending in  “vdom-core”:

.dpml-vdom-core

and

.dpmlplus-vdom-core

The protected string will appear as a second-level domain. For instance, if the protected string is “dove”, the DPML Plus registration at COREhub will take the virtual domain name:

dove.dpmlplus-vdom-core

To request DPML products an SMD file is required (Payload’s “trademark.smd”) and to add up to 3 variants to DPML Plus “domain.variant.1.name”, “domain.variant.2.name”, “domain.variant.3.name” can be used.

As a reminder, virtual domains’ behavior is similar to standard domains: domains, hosts, contacts can be created, updated, inquired, deleted and restored via Payload API and the GatewayNG control panel. They will show up in the COREhub whois and on the Reporting Server, just like normal domains.

Because virtual domains are managed manually in the backend, please note GatewayNG doesn’t provide real-time updates, instead up to 24-hour delays are possible.
